the townspeople were forced to file past and
witness bodies of
the 22 girls who starved to death between May 4 and May 7

a German child, 10 years old, fainted and fell
onto one of the caskets
her name is Waltraud Ihlenfeld -- she is
living in the vicinity of Berlin
we are trying to locate this lady
to obtain her recollections of the event

Lieutenant Colonel Robert F Bates
Inspector General of the Fifth Infantry Division
ordered the local NSDAP (Nazi) party members
to recover the bodies of the 22 starved women
and ordered the local people to provide caskets

the living girls were transferred from the barracks to
this building
in Wallern that was being used as a hospital for German soldiers
it is no longer a hospital and has been repainted
8 May 1945

Tema Pincewska, age 20, was
taken to the hospital
she is being attended here by Major Frank
