liberated by
Company A

the name of this town was Ferchenhaid
during the German occupation of the Sudetenland
today the Czech Republic name is Borova Lada

we couldn't locate the little girl but we found
the remodeled house in the background
the house is the home of Antonin Pichl
he is a forester for the Sumava National Park

the lady in the center of this photograph is
Frau Erna Winter
who was deported from the Sudetenland
in accordance with the Potsdam agreement
did you notice the Bavarian
style wooden shoes

left to right
Radim Kosicek & Ida Mikesova & Antonin Pichl
Radim retired as Deputy Director of Forest Management
Sumava National Park and Protected Landscape Area
Atonin still works as a forester for the Sumava National Park
Frau Mikesova is the lady who identified Frau Winter

this field was a good place to work on our tanks
children now peacefully play soccer here
without knowing the sordid history of this site

the scenery in these small villages changes very little in 50
years
you find a new tree and telephone line here and there
and occasionally a building has been demolished

after a while you run out of time looking for existing buildings
we may spot this one next year

a good way to relax
try a pile of barracks bags
filled with clothes
that guy in the center is holding a
small dog

several people in the town wanted to know
if this soldier was a Chicago gangster
your webmaster explained this man was
displaying his liberated pistol
Americans did not loot or steal
anything
but they liberated a hugh quantity of items
